A late Happy
New Year to all of you!
January has
been a very busy month! The students are back in routine and they continue to
be good workers!
Here are
some of the things we are covering this month of January:
In math, we
have started measurement using non-standard units. We looked at terms such as
height, length, and width and measured objects around the classroom using
interlock blocks, coffee sticks, hands, paperclips, and string. We also
explored with measuring things in centimeters.
In language
arts, we continue doing our Daily 5 literacy program. I have started doing
guided reading with the students and practicing different reading strategies to
help them become better readers! Please continue to have your child do their
daily home reading at home. We also been doing a lot of writing and practicing
how to read over our sentences and edit our mistakes. Children are also
exploring more word patterns in phonics and have been practicing their spelling
words in class.
For science
we have started exploring with matter and looking at the properties of solids,
liquids, and, gases. Students are very excited with the experiments that we are
doing this month. As you can see, we’ve
done some experiments on different liquids and how they interact.
Observing different liquids and how they interact. |
In Social
Studies, Our class is learning about how people within our community, province,
and nation are both similar and different. We are exploring various culture
heritages and traditions within different continents. Traditions include cultural
activities, events, beliefs that are passed down from generation to generation.
Please help your child work on their culture book that was sent out for
homework. It is due on January 31st.
Please make sure that your child has
an extra pair of socks and mitts for recess and to always have their snow
pants.
Please continue to check your child’s agenda for
homework and make sure to sign it every day. If you have any questions or
concerns you can email me at christinesimbulan23@gmail.com or
call me at the school.
Many Blessings!
Miss Simbulan
